HomeMy WebLinkAbout4/9/2024 - Economic Development (EDA) - Minutes - Regular MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF SALEM, VIRGINIA The Economic Development Authority of the City of Salem, Virginia, held a meeting on April 9, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 114 North Broad Street, Salem, Virginia 24153. Dave Robbins, Paul Kuhnel, Cindy Shelor, Sean Kossman, Macel Janoschka, and Joe Curran were present. Quinn Mongan was absent. There was also present Chris Dorsey, City Manager; Rob Light, Assistant City Manager; Rosie Jordan, Treasurer; Jim Guynn, Legal Counsel; Tommy Miller, Director of Economic Development; Wayne Adkins, Business Outreach Coordinator; Rebecca Marsh, Economic Development Specialist; Mary Ellen Wines, Zoning Administrator; Max Dillon, City Planner; Glen Walters, Town Studio; and Crystal Williams, Secretary. The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. The March 9, 2024, meeting minutes were presented and approved as written. Ms. Jordan reviewed the financial report as of February 29, 2024. The report was received as presented. Mr. Miller shared that the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategies (CEDS) committee works with the city to strengthen planning efforts. Quinn Mongan has represented the city and can no longer serve on the board. Joe Curran agreed to be the replacement for Mr. Mongan. The city has been working with the Salem Museum on signage. The current sign is at Oakey’s field. To enhance the signage, a proposal has been made for a two-sided black metal sign with an estimated cost of $2,500, including the installation. A motion was made to cover the cost of the proposed signage. Motion: Robbins; Second: Shelor; All Aye Glen Walters with Town Studio briefly updated the City’s Comprehensive Plan. On May 29th, a business appreciation event will be held at Hidden Valley Country Club. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:58 p.m.
