HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/12/2024 - Economic Development (EDA) - Minutes - Regular MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF SALEM, VIRGINIA The Economic Development Authority of the City of Salem, Virginia, held a meeting on November 12, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 114 North Broad Street, Salem, Virginia 24153. Quinn Mongan, Joe Curran, Jason Fountain, Paul Kuhnel, Dave Robbins, and Cindy Shelor were present. Sean Kosmann was absent. Chris Dorsey, City Manager; Rob Light, Assistant City Manager; Rosie Jordan, Treasurer; Jim Guynn, Legal Counsel; Tommy Miller, Director of Economic Development; Wayne Adkins, Business Outreach Coordinator; Rebecca Marsh, Economic Development Specialist; and Crystal Williams, Secretary, were also present. The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. The October 8, 2024, meeting minutes were approved as written. Ms. Jordan reviewed the financial report as of September 30, 2024, and the report was received as presented. A motion was made to hold a closed session in accordance with Section 2.2-3711 A(5) of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended, for discussion concerning a prospective business or industry or the expansion of an existing business or industry where no previous announcement has been made of the business or industry’s interest in locating or expanding its facilities in the community, relating to a manufacturer’s constrained on available production space and/or talent. Motion: Mongan; Second: Shelor; All Aye Upon reconvening, a motion was made in accordance with Section 2.2-3712D of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended to date. The EDA certified that in closed session, only items lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and only such items identified in the motion by which the closed session was convened were heard, discussed, or considered by the EDA. Motion: Mongan; Second: Robbins; All Aye Mr. Adkins updated the board on façade grants followed by some general updates from Mr. Miller. The meeting was adjourned at 3:49 p.m.
