Call to Order A joint special meeting of the Council of the City of Salem, Virginia, along with the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission was held at the Roanoke Blacksburg Regional Airport, Conference Room A, 5202 Aviation Drive, NW. Roanoke, Virginia, 24012, on January 17, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., there being present the following members of said Council, to wit: Renée Ferris Turk, Mayor; James W. Wallace, III, Vice-Mayor; Council members: Byron Randolph Foley, William D. Jones, and H. Hunter Holliday (absent); James E. Taliaferro, II, City Manager; H. Robert Light, Assistant City Manager and Clerk of Council; and Crystal Williams, Assistant to the City Manager. Also present were: Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport Commission members and staff; and the following business was transacted; Roll Call (1) Dr. NL Bishop, Chair Roanoke Regional Airport Commission (2) Renée Ferris Turk, Mayor Salem City Council WHEREAS, Dr. NL Bishop, Chair of the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission, called the meeting of the Commission to order; and WHEREAS, Renée Ferris Turk, Mayor of the City of Salem, called the meeting of City Council to order; and B. New Business 1) Welcome - Dr. Bishop Dr. Bishop welcomed everyone in attendance and turned the meeting over to Mike Stewart, Executive Director of the Roanoke- Blacksburg Regional Airport. 2) Airport Updates - Mike Stewart, Executive Director Mr. Stewart provided an update on current and historical metrics related to the number of flights, riders, and carriers for the a irport. He also provided a comparison to other airports serving our region. Mr. Stewart reviewed recently completed, current and planned projects at the airport. He provided an overview of the airport’s Master Plan scheduled for completion in the spring. 3) Roundtable Discussion - Airport Commission and Salem City Council C. Adjournment 1) Adjournment by Salem City Council 2) Dr. Bishop to Recess the Commission There being no further business, Dr. Bishop and Mayor Turk adjourned the respective meetings of the Commission and City Council at 9:20 a.m.
