Salem Civic Center, Parlor C, 1001 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem, VA 24153
1. Call to Order
A special meeting of the Council of the City of Salem, Virginia, was called to
order at 1:45 p.m., there being present the following members to wit: Renée Ferris
Turk, Mayor; James W. Wallace, III, Vice-Mayor; Council members: Byron
Randolph Foley, William D. Jones, and John E. Saunders; with Renée Ferris Turk,
Mayor, presiding; together with Rob Light, Assistant City Manager and Clerk of
Council; and the following business was transacted:
Mayor Turk reported that this date, place, and time was set as a special meeting of
City Council, in accordance with Section 4.6 (b) of The Charter of the City of
Salem, Virginia, in order to interview the candidates for the Salem School Board
to fill the expiring terms of Artice Ledbetter and Andy Raines; and
2. Closed Session
A. Closed Session
Hold a closed session in accordance with Section 2.2-3711 A(1) of the 1950 Code
of Virginia, as amended, to discuss a personnel matter pertaining to School
Board appointments, specifically for the purpose of interviewing the School
Board Candidates.
Vice Mayor Wallace motioned to move to closed session at 1:45 p.m. in accordance
with the provisions of Section 2.2-3711A(1) of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as
amended, to discuss a personnel matter pertaining to School Board appointments,
specifically for the purpose of interviewing the School Board Candidates. Randy
Foley seconded the motion.
Ayes: Foley, Jones, Saunders, Turk, Wallace
James Wallace motioned to reconvene at 3:41 p.m. and that in accordance with
Section 2.2-3712D of the Code of Virginia, 1950 as amended to date, Council
hereby certifies that in Closed Session only items lawfully exempted from open
meeting requirements under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and only such
items identified in the motion by which the Closed Session was convened were
heard, discussed, or considered by the Council. Renee Turk seconded the motion.
Ayes: Foley, Jones, Saunders, Turk, Wallace
3. Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting was
adjourned at 3:41 p.m.
